The Ministry of Health said Sunday that it had provided around 5,000 of anti-scorpion injections to the southern region, through the Health Crisis Committee in the region.

The ministry explained in a statement that the shipment was handed over by the head of the Crisis Committee, on August 29, to the Director of the Medical Supply in Fezzan in order to distribute to health facilities in the southern region.

"The amount in which the ministry had contracted for was estimated at 30 thousand doses, however, only 5 thousand doses have arrived so far because of financial circumstances beyond the will of the ministry," the ministry explained, stressing that the amount distributed is not sufficient compared to the area and the nature of the southern region.

About 19 children have died in the past six weeks because of scorpion stings, due to the lack of anti-scorpion serum in the health facilities in the south region, according to activists on social networking sites.
