Libya on Wednesday reported 20 new coronavirus cases and one death, bringing its total to 99 confirmed cases and 4 fatalities.

The new figures of the confirmed cases are the most since March 24, when the first case was officially confirmed in Tripoli.

The National Center for Disease Control said in an introductory statement it had conducted 115 samples; 69 from the Marjai lab, 33 from its branch in Sabha, and 13 from Tripoli University Hospital.

According to the center, 20 of these samples came out positive, noting that 17 were linked to previous patients, two are of new arrivals, in addition to one new case.

The center's branch in Sabha reported yesterday a new Covid-19 death, while sources from the city confirmed that 17 of the cases announced yesterday were recorded in Sabha, noting that the newly infected patients were linked to those registered on Tuesday.

The new cases brought the country’s total as of Wednesday to 99 cases, including 4 deaths, 56 active cases, while 40 patients have recovered since the outbreak of the epidemic in the country, according to the daily update of the National Center for Disease Control.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Sabha, Al-Shawsh Abdel Salam, ordered on Wednesday, a complete lockdown following the disturbing new figures of Covid-19 cases in the city.
