Around 110,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Cov-19 vaccine arrived at Mitiga International Airport on Thursday, said UNICEF's office in Libya yesterday.

The COVAX facilitated shipment comes as a mass scale vaccination program against the COVID-19 is underway in the country.

UNICEF noted that it is engaged in efforts to facilitate the procurement, arrival, and delivery of the vaccines in Libya to speed up the national vaccination program.

Libya is a self-financing participant in the COVAX Facility and already received the first shipment of 57,600 doses in April and the second shipment of May 117,600 doses.

Since the vaccination campaign kicked off last April, the health authorities in Libya have administrated 811,141 shots nationwide, according to the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

The other vaccines administered in Libya are Sputnik V and the Chinese Sinopharm vaccines.

Libya recorded on Thursday 2,369 new infections and 34 Covid deaths, according to the NCDC figures.
