Several Libyan cities have celebrated World Nursing Day, which falls on May 12 each year, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

In Zawiya city, the Nursing Service Office celebrated the day on Thursday under the slogan "Qualified Nursing...Better Service". The ceremony was attended by a range board of actors including Head of the Nursing Service Center of Health Service Department, Amina Shareef, Director of the Medical Labor Force Development Center Dr. Mustafa Al-Saqri, and Director of the Health Care Mohammad Qandil, in addition to local nurses, doctors, intellectuals and those interested in health and environmental affairs.

Speeches were made to highlight the good about nursing profession and the crucial role it plays on people's times of need, in addition to several issues that were put forward on improving medical services.

Several actors from the field of nursing were honored at the close of the ceremony, held at the Medical Research Center.

In Misrata, the Student's Union of Nursing College and graduates of the University of Misrata organized a special event to celebrate the nursing profession on Saturday.

A number of college graduates were honored and awarded certificates of appreciation, in addition to those who had fallen in the line of duty while doing their job.
