The director of Tripoli University Hospital Nabil al-Ajili said that the hospital is suffering from nursing shortage, and attempts to recruit nursing personnel from abroad have failed because of concerns over security situation in Libya.

Ajili pointed out that providing nursing staff through private recruitment contracts has proved not to be successful as well, asserting that opening the door to private recruitments agencies and pharmaceutical companies to provide medicine and medical ancillary employees is the solution to problems of the hospital.

He also referred to the critical situation of the pediatric oncology ward, explaining that the medicines provided do not exceed 40 per cent of the patients' needs.

"The pediatric oncology ward of Tripoli University Hospital is the only one available in the region after the closure of Al-Jala Hospital," Ajili explained.
