The Biotechnology Research Center denied running out of coronavirus test devices after social media accounts had circulated a letter from the Health Ministry to the National Center for Disease Control about shortage of the COVID19 test devices and shutdown of a number of laboratories.

The Head of the Biotechnology Research Center Adam Al-Zaghid said Tuesday the center and the Health Ministry contracted firms to import COVID19 test devices that will be sufficient for six months.

He said the devices will arrive in Libya Wednesday and will be enough for all 20 laboratories across Libya, adding that when the news about shortages broke out, the center sent sufficient test devices to the laboratories before the new shipment arrives.

He also indicated that the Health Ministry should be informed before the test devices run out as they need time to be imported, adding that not doing so will hinder the effective response to the pandemic.

Libya has so far recorded 4063 coronavirus cases as active cases have reached 3345, recoveries have reached 625 and deaths have amounted to 93 cases, according to the National Center for Disease Control.
