Tajoura Heart Center said that it had performed the first heart surgery for children by a team of pediatric heart surgeons from the United States who are currently visiting the Centre.

The Centre clarified that the first operation was carried out to a two-year-old child suffering from deformation of the heart, noting that the operation was met with success.

On its Facebook page, the Centre's media office explained that the American team will conduct 40 heart operations for children in 4 weeks, affirming that 12 of them will be conducted during the first week.

The media office added that the pathological cases will be selected by a Libyan medical team after carrying out medical checkups and discussing them with the American team.

Last January, Tajoura Heart Center signed a cooperation agreement with the Novick Cardiac Alliance (NCA) to conduct about 400 surgical heart surgeries for children within one year.
