The Ministry of Education in the UN-installed government has demanded the General Authority of Communication and Informatics to block social media sites in Libya over exam leaks.

The request was made by minister Mohammed Ezzabi during his meeting with the chairman of the authority Sami Fintazi in Tripoli on Sunday.

Ezzabi asked Fintazi to block Facebook, Twitter and Instagram after a number of papers of secondary school certificate exams (baccalaureate), which started on July 10, went viral online.

"We must protect the students from the effect of these sites which spread false information about the process of exams," he noted.

Ezzabi wants the ban on social media to be extended until the end of the exams on July 20. The 3 social media sites are working normally till this moment.

77,500 students are sitting for the baccalaureate exams, the Education Ministry reported.
