Global tire-maker Kenda teams with Washington DC-based university to launch the Kenda Advance Scholarship – with a mission to empower local Libyan talent and shape the future of education.

Kenda Tire, one of the largest tire manufacturers in the world, has announced its partnership with Washington-DC-based Nexford University. Together, they have launched the Kenda Advance Scholarship, offering business program scholarships including the university's flagship MBA to Libyan residents.

Kenda Tire has a well-established 50-year history of operating in the global and US markets by offering high-quality products. Its partnership with the next-generation university is part of its Libyan market plans to give back to the community and empower future generations of Libyans through education.

"At Kenda, we know that education is power, and one of the most the most powerful drivers to improve lives around the world," said Jimmy Yang, Chairman, Kenda Tire. "Kenda Tire has been serving customers in Libya for over 20 years, and Libyan customers have adopted Kenda as the go-to brand for their tires. We believe its time to give back, and empower the Libyan community through education."

Education is power. It's time for change

Each additional year of education can increase an individual’s earning potential by 10%, reports UNESCO. "Education can help solve some of the world's most pressing problems. It can boost a person’s earning power, reduce crime, and has positive knock-on effects for health outcomes, for example," said Dr Sheila Fournier-Bonilla, Chief Academic Officer, Nexford University. "At Nexford, we all believe in the mission – to increase access to quality education  –  and to help people everywhere move forward in life."

Demand for higher education in Libya is on the rise, and yet, supply is not meeting that demand. In Libya, there are just nine universities and four institutes of technical learning, according to Fanack. Of a total Libyan population of 6.375 million, 44% fall under the age of 25 – meaning Libyan youth are unable to take limited seats.

Nexford, however, provides learners access to high-quality, affordable, dynamic education that prepares them for the global workplace. For this reason, Kenda has chosen to support Libya's young professionals with Nexford's scholarship and skills-based business programs.

Kenda Advance Scholarship
