The municipalities of Greater Tripoli suspended Saturday study for another week starting January 12 in both public and private education institutions.
The decision came in a meeting for Tripoli municipalities' education supervisors on Saturday and it aimed at the safety of students amid the ongoing indiscriminate shelling on public and private facilities as well as houses in the capital.
The meeting saw an agreement on resuming study on the next Sunday if the situation became better and safer.
The education supervisors suspended study last week for seven days to mourn the victims of the Military College who were targeted by a warplane affiliated with Haftar's forces and because of indiscriminate shelling by Haftar's forces on different areas in Tripoli.
Meanwhile, UNICEF in Libya expressed concern over escalation of military operations in Tripoli, saying targeting education facilities puts the lives of children at risk.
UNICEF added that Tripoli schools became places of fear not education, saying attacks on those institutions are violations of children's rights, international humanitarian law and human rights law.
