Al-Hottab School has been ranked as the best school in Tajoura suburb of Tripoli for the school year 2015-2016.

The ranking, the first of its kind in Libya, is part of "Our School is Best" initiative sponsored by Al-Rawad Society for Education and Awareness and Tajoura Education Office, featuring top-performing schools within the administrative area of Tajoura with the aim to increase public schools proficiency and performance.

Al-Hottab School scored 80.8 points out of 100 and won the LYD 3000 prize. It followed by Othmania School with 80.0 points and a prize of LYD 2000. Abi Lashhaer School was third in the ranking with a prize of LYD 1000.

The metric was based on more than 20 criteria that should be present in the competing schools. These included hygiene, class room equipment, use of technology, wearing school uniforms, contact with students' parents, electronic archiving system, database for students' results, healthy students' breakfast, diversity of school meal, media activity, organizing sports events, activity classes, motivating and encouraging outstanding students, first aid kits and safety equipment, clean drinking water, clean WC, computer labs, classrooms overcrowded or not, and sports playgrounds.

The rankings evaluated data for 65 schools.

The society said its ranking would be repeated every school year to encourage competition among schools and students to achieve the best education goals. It also aims to expand the ranking to include all Tripoli schools as a first stage and then in whole Libya.

The society also honoured the best students of the school year.
