The Curriculum Centre in east Libya, a parallel educational institution under Al-Thanni government, has requested Tripoli counterparts to pay previous dues, as a prerequisite, before sending this academic year's textbooks to the western and southern regions.

The Tripoli-based Curriculum Centre said its eastern counterpart has requested LYD 7 million dinars as previous dues for leasing warehouses, workers' fees, educational staff bonus, export fees, and reprinting five wrong headlines in the textbooks and printing exam papers.

"The Ministry of Education referred this request to the GNA last Thursday to pay the dues in order to send the textbooks from the eastern warehouses to the other regions," the head of the ministry's media office Ramadan Al-Godwi told Ajwa Net.

The new school books arrived in Benghazi last May, but Al-Thanni government officials refused to send copies to other regions of Libya. As a result, the Tripoli-based Ministry of Education rescheduled start of the academic year 2016/2017 for the western and southern regions from October 03 to October 24.
