The UN Special Adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, and the National Oil Corporation (NOC) Head Mustafa Sanalla have reaffirmed the need to end the oil blockade as soon as possible.

Williams and Sanalla met in Tripoli on Sunday to discuss the national and international impact of the oil shutdown, according to the UN Rep.

"We reiterated the importance of lifting the oil blockade as soon as possible, as well as the need to shield Libya’s national resources from instrumentalization and politicization, Williamas wrote on Twitter.

She said the prolonged shutdown of oil facilities resulted in infrastructure difficulties and loss in revenues.

Protesters in eastern and southern Libya announced on April 16 that oil fields and ports are closed until the government of Fathi Bashagha backed by the east-based House of Representatives takes office in Tripoli.

They also demanded that the incumbent Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah be referred for investigation.
