The Ambassador of Malta to Libya, Charles Saliba, has confirmed that several Maltese companies have shown interest to return to Libya, although challenges still exist.

In a meeting with the Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Siyala Thursday, the Maltese ambassador explained that some companies expressed concerns about financial procedures.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in Libya, and in this regard, ambassador Saliba commended the political progress and declared Malta’s support to the Libyan people.

He also indicated that works at the Consulate of Malta are delayed, and operations are not likely to resume before March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Siyala expressed appreciation for Malta’s support, emphasizing that Libya welcomes any initiative aimed at enhancing relations between the two countries.

The Maltese ambassador confirmed to The Libya Observer that Siyala asserted Libya's keenness to restore the confidence of foreign companies and had taken steps in this regard, including issuing letters of credit following the exchange rate devaluation.
