Experts from the German company "Siemens" arrived on Tuesday at Ubari gas-fired power plant in order to conduct operational trials in the lead up to connecting the first turbine with the electrical grid as soon as possible.

The director of the power plant, Radwan Khalil, said that the German experts have already arrived at the site to conduct the necessary tests and operations on the 640 MW power plant, after considerable efforts made by the Board of Directors of the General Electricity Company.

An agreement was signed earlier this month between the General Electricity Company and Siemens for the return of the German experts to complete the rest of the suspended projects.

Earlier this year, Turkish engineers from Enka Company arrived in Ubari to resume work on the gas power plant.

Libya is experiencing a severe power crisis with rolling blackouts last around 10 hours a day in the capital and southern cities and towns. The power crisis forced many families to buy portable power generators to secure their power supply especially during the night time.

State-run institutions have also installed generators to keep the work going, but shortages of diesel fuel cast shadow on the crisis and added to the daily woes of people.
