Protesters from the Amazigh city of Zuwara in western Libya shut down Mellitah Oil and Gas Complex on Monday.

The protesters, gathered in front of the oil facility in the early hours of the day, are demanding jobs for the city's locals in Mellitah and that the manager of the complex must be from their city, claiming it lies within their administrative borders.

Sources said there are 1200 workers in the complex now, which is over its 500-staff capacity.

The Mellitah Oil and Gas Complex is jointly run by the National Oil Corporation and Italy's Eni. It is located some 22 km east of Zuwara. The Complex consists mainly of two plants, one for treating the Oil and condensate production from Wafa desert field whereas the other plant treats the Gas and condensate coming from Sabratha Offshore Platform.
