The Ministry of Oil and Gas in the Salvation Government signed on Sunday an agreement with the Council of Elders in Nafousa Mountain to tackle the problem of smuggling fuel out of their region.

The agreement orders both parties to exert more efforts in fighting the growing smuggling phenomenon in all of the fuel stations within their region, and it obliges them, under the SG strict supervision, to helpresume the crude oil pumping through the pipelines of Al-Rayaniya area, which amounts to 350 thousand barrels a day.

It demands both parties to distribute fuel according to the population of each municipality in the region and to the Ministry’s vision and policy so that the municipalities become responsible for dealing with the fuel station within their administrative boundaries’ range.

The agreement also urges both parties to coordinate with one another to help uncover the smuggling schemes in their area and to shut down any gas stations that prove to have smuggled fuel before as well as to keep an eye on the closing procedures and update Ministry about them.
