The National Oil Corporation (NOC) has revealed on Tuesday that it had discovered a new offshore gas field that is about 140 km away from Tripoli and only 5 km to the north of Al-Buri oil field.

"The area of the filed lies under water, 150 meter deep." The statement says.

It added that the digging of the new gas well will be continued to reach the final depth (2981 meters), saying that the production capacity will be 8 million cubic feet of gas and 800 barrels of condensate a day from the surface layer.

In the lower layer, the statement added, the capacity will be 10 million cubic feet of gas and 760 barrels of condensate a day.

The area which was the scene for the new discovery is a shared contract between the NOC and Eni and the operation of work is run by Mellitah Oil & Gas B.V.
