The Attorney General's Office in Tripoli, on Friday, announced its intention to sell an oil tanker in a public auction, expected to take place next Thursday.

The office said, in a statement, they decided to put the oil tanker Morning Glory, in its custodysince last year, for sale in a public auction, to be held at the Courts Complex in the capital.

Morning Glory was intercepted by the US Navy in March 2014 soon after its exit from the Libyan territorial waters and returned it to Tripoli.

An armed group headed by Ibrahim Jodran, which controls oil sites in central Libya, attempted to smuggle oil outside Libya. The oil tanker was loaded with crude oil from Esider Port in a bid to sell it in the the black market.

Then-Prime Minister Ali Zidan denounced the oil theft and called on the international community to stop the oil tanker and return to state authorities.
