Misrata has brought a new chapter of life to its economic development after signing a twinning accord with the Turkish city of Kayseri.

The deal was rubber-stamped Wednesday in Misrata amid a topping-out ceremony in the presence of government officials from both sides and the mayors of Misrata and Greater Kayseri.

Among the guests were the Ambassador and Consul General of Turkey in Libya, and Ministers of Transport and Interior, who delivered the opening address of the ceremony.

The gathering also featured a visual presentation of the two municipalities followed by speeches by the Ambassador of Turkey, the Mayor of Misrata, and his counterpart of Kayseri.

"The signing ceremony took place in a joyful atmosphere that reflects the strength of Libyan-Turkish relations and the depth of bonds between the two municipalities," the media office of Misrata Municipal Council said.

The Turkish delegation who arrived in Misrata Wednesday morning kicked off their visit with a series of meetings with the Municipal Council of Misrata and directors of educational and health institutions in the city before conducting field tours to several landmarks and monuments including the city's ancient market "Souq Allaffa" and discussed the possibility of developing and modernizing this site, marked as a tourists destination.

After a long and busy day, Misrata, long known for its generous hospitality, held a dinner in honour of its guests with the participation of the "Muashahat" musician group, who kept the guests entertained with their Maghareb traditional music throughout the evening.
