Mellitah Oil and Gas Company said it will start digging five new gas wells in Al-Wafaa field next September as part of its development project as well as to boost production.

The oil company said in a statement that the national company for digging and repairing oil wells to do the major part of the job in coordination with contractors in what the company describes as localizing work and giving national firms priority in such projects.

Al-Wafaa gas field is located 155 kms to the south of Ghadames city in southwestern Libya and covers the borderline with Algeria, according to the company.

The southern part of the field was discovered in 1964 by Shell, while the northern part was discovered by Sirte Oil Company in 1991.

Last July, Mellitah announced the start of digging two oil wells in Al-Buri field after logistics and technical preparedness was at hand, according the company.
