The Audit Bureau has refused to approve a 250 million euros contract with the German company Siemens, whereby the company takes over the maintenance work at the Ruwais power station located west of Tripoli, for eight years.

The Audit Bureau explained that its objection to the deal comes on the background of the excessive prices set by the company, which makes up to 75% of the cost of establishing a new plant.

Another issue is that the company was awarded the project directly and not through a bidding process that the Audit Bureau deemed contrary to the regulations of concluding administrative contracts, in addition to Siemens' failure to complete a similar project signed since 2010.

The Audit Bureau also indicated that the contract was drafted in a broad manner that lacks accuracy and clarity, including the absence of timelines for implementing the required work, while withholding a large amount of money at the expense of the national electricity company' needs.

It called for developing a plan and offering contracts in a general or limited bid in accordance with the regulations of the administrative contract.
