Director of the Information Office of the Audit Bureau Ibrahim Abu Zaribah said Monday that the Audit Bureau had approved the contracts for establishing emergency power stations in Misrata and Tripoli.

Abu Zaribah added in a press statement that the contracts were first refused for lack of clarity of the funding sources, pointing out that the General Electricity Company (GECOL) will begin the implementation process of the project during the next two days.

He also indicated that the project's cost and the length of time will be under the remit of the GECOL.

Abu Zaribah denied having obstructed the power station project, indicating that they asked the company to clarify the mechanism for selecting the financing entity, stressing that this saved the state treasury 300 million dinars.

He further noted that the Audit Bureau approved the establishment of a station in Tobruk in October 2017.

A spokesman for the Presidential Council had said earlier that the Council agreed last December to establish urgent projects for the electricity sector; however, these projects were met with objections from the Audit Bureau because the funding was to be through the Internal Investment Fund.
