The Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, met with the Head of Audit Bureau, Khalid Shakshak, Head of General Electricity Company of Libya, Wiam Al-Abdali, Minister of Finance, Faraj Bumtari, and others, to discuss agreement on funding urgent maintenance of power units and plants until 2021 budget is approved.

They discussed nationalizing Zliten power plant, maintenance of unit 01 of Khalij power plant, some turbines and units at Al-Zawiya, and Al-Khoms power plants.

Shakshak said they are now racing with the time to alleviate the expected suffering of people from power cuts and outages in the summer, saying so many projects in the electricity sector weren't done for "some reasons", which he didn't name.

The meeting went over the hindrances of completing the work at South Tripoli power plant, which could add 1300 megawatts to the network 2022 summer, adding the Turkish operating firm said it was ready to resume work once a contract was signed.

Earlier, Al-Sarraj discussed with officials from the German company, Siemens, ways to speed up the implementation of power units projects and maintenance at the General Electricity Company of Libya's (GECOL) power plants during next fall.
