The UN-installed Presidency Council Minister of State for Women Affairs and Community Development, Asma Al-Osta has sent a proposal to the administrative office of the council to form a committee consisting of specialists, headed by her, to consider the delay of Libyan law, passed in the late 1960s, for intellectual property.
Al-Osta’s comments came while attending the World Intellectual Property Day, which took place in Hammamet, Tunisia, on Wednesday.
She clarified that the committee will look into three parts. First, is the authors and neighboring rights, secondly the patents, and third is the brand, adding that the law needs to be modernized to help keep pace with current developments and to build up on the previous work of others.
Intellectual property is the property of the mind such as inventions, literary, artistic works, trademarks, symbols, names, images, and designs.
World Intellectual Property Day is observed on April 26 each year with a variety of events and activities worldwide.
