The spokesman of the judicial police, Colonel Ahmed Abukarae, confirmed that Al-Khums Prison inmates organized a mutiny on Sunday evening, leading to the death of one inmate.

Abukarae added that the prisoners took advantage of the recess they usually take in the prison's square and lit fire to clothes and blankets, causing confusion inside the jail.

"Prison guards tried to contain the mutiny peacefully, however one inmate was killed when he tried to resist the guards." Col. Abukarae added.

He also said that the Head of the Judicial Police, Brigadier General Mohammed Besha formed a committee to investigate about the incident, urging all legal agencies to visit the prison to see the procedures used to end the mutiny themselves.
