The Head of Education Office in Abyar town, some 50 km east of Benghazi, died of multiple gunshot wounds on Thursday.

Local sources said unknown gunmen showered Salah Qaliwan with bullets outside his house and escaped on Wednesday. His relatives rushed him to the hospital in critical conditions, but doctors could not do anything because of the multiple gunshot wounds.

Abyar Education Office strongly condemned his murder and announced that classes in the town would be suspended until further notice in protest.

Earlier, Qaliwan declared himself a nominee for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Local residents believe that he had better chances to win the elections against his rivals because of his good reputation.

The reason for his murder is still unclear. His neighbors declared that he had good morals and no enemies.
