Bodies of 14 civilians have been found in a landfill in Benghazi's Lathi neighbourhood, which is under full control of Dignity Operation militia groups.

The bodies showed signs of torture as well as gunshots to the head, local media reported.

Militias loyal to renegade General Khalifa Hafter launched crackdown on Dignity Operation opponents in Benghazi neighbourhoods after Defend Benghazi Brigades, a group of armed IDPs, announced their intention to return to Benghazi by force.

Four bodies have been identified as Abdullah Fakhari, a mosque imam; Ali Alzawi, a mosque imam; Abdul-Hakim Hijazi, aviation technician; and Tareg Tajouri, an employee at Benghazi Audit Bureau, all of them are suspected of being Dignity Operation opponents.

The UN envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, denounced the execution and branded it a war crime.

In Abu Atni neighbourhood, a father and his 3 sons were also found dead in a landfill. The father was identified as Rajab Jazwi.

Last month, the chief of so-called “Special Tasks Force” in Benghazi, a militia group that defected from Dignity Operation, unveiled that several assassinations in the city were committed by Dignity Operation groups and bodies were thrown in the city's landfills.
