Helicopter carrying Libyan unity government officials makes emergency landing

The Media and Government Communication Department of the Government of National Unity (GNU) has denied the circulating news about the downing of a helicopter carrying some of its ministers after holding their cabinet meeting in Jadu city.

The spokesman for the GNU Mohammed Hammouda, told reporters that a technical fault caused a helicopter carrying cabinet ministers to land without causing any casualties.

Reports said that the helicopter had crashed as it took off from Jadu Airport.

Libya’s Foreign Ministry renders Egyptian statements as flagrant intervention

The Libyan Foreign Ministry has rendered the statements of the spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on the Government of National Unity and the roadmap agreement signed in Geneva as a flagrant intervention in Libyan affairs and an attack on its sovereignty.

The Foreign Ministry said no country can set dates for the start and end of Libyan political processes, saying such statements as those of Egypt are a threat to the national security.

Heavy clashes erupted late on Wednesday in Zawiyet Al-Dahmani neighborhood in Tripoli between Stability Support Apparatus and Deterrence Apparatus for Fighting Terrorism and Organized Crime, leading to the killing of three of the fighting men and one civilian, who was run over by a police car fleeing the clashes, a medical source said, adding that others had been injured as well.

The United Nations has urged Libyan leaders to refrain from using the date of 22 June as a tool for political manipulation.

At a UN press briefing on Wednesday, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General, said the expiration of the transitional phase set on 22 June provides that presidential and parliamentary elections are held by then, which has not been the case.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqilah Saleh, and President of the High Council of State Khaled Al-Mishri, have agreed to meet in Geneva at the invitation of the UN Special Adviser on Libya Stephani Williams.

Williams disclosed via a tweet on Thursday her pleasure for these developments, confirming that Aqilah and Al-Mishri accepted her invitation to meet at the UN HQ in Geneva between 28-29 June to discuss the draft constitutional framework for elections.

The Foreign Ministry has summoned the Chargé d'Affairs of the Egyptian Embassy to Libya, Tamer Mustafa, to inform him of the ministry's dissatisfaction with the ill-treatment that the Libyan citizens receive during their entry and exit from Egypt.

The ministry protested the mistreatment of Libyans traveling through the Salloum border crossing, and the long waiting hours inside the passport hall, without taking into account humanitarian cases or clarifying the reasons for such actions.
