USAID organized workshops for CBL staff to improve monetary plan

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) organized last March workshops with the Central Bank of Libya to help improve the 2022 annual monetary plan, the US Embassy in Libya has disclosed.

The embassy said the plan would help the Central Bank to implement a monetary policy framework that focuses on enhancing the stability of the economy and reducing inflationary pressures.

China supports efforts to develop sports sector in Libya

The Chargé d'Affairs of China in Tripoli, Wang Zhimin, has expressed his country's desire to cooperate with the Government of National Unity to develop the sports sector in Libya.

The Chinese official disclosed his government's intention in this regard during a meeting with Minister of Sports Abdel Shafie Al-Juwifi on Monday.

A statement by the Sports Ministry said Al-Juwifi reiterated the depth of the Libyan-Chinese relations and praised the existing cooperation between the two countries in several fields.

Libya loses to Equatorial Guinea in 2023 AFCON qualifiers

Equatorial Guinea defeated Libya 2-0 in the second leg of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the new Malabo Stadium on Monday night.

In the early stages of the match, the Guineans were made to sweat as the visitors produced excellent chances and looked determent to break the try-scoring deadlock before the break.

However, after the restart, the Libyans came out flat and lost their footing in the match, and with Mohamed Touhami scoring an own goal in minute 51 things just started to fall apart.

HCS members say they will continue to boycott sessions

A group of members of the High Council of State (HCS) have said they would continue to boycott the sessions and demanded the HCS presidency reconsider the way it conducts the council.

The bloc boycotted the HSC sessions for five successive days accusing the HCS presidency of holding the council hostage to "narrow factional agendas."

The meeting dealt with the conditions of the electricity grid, the company's plan to confront the increase in energy consumption during the summer, and an evaluation of its workflow.

Menfi, Al-Hafi discuss ending political impasse in Libya

The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, discussed Monday with the Chairman of the Supreme Court, Mohammed Al-Hafi, ways out of the current political impasse and achieving stability as well as the status of statehood in Libya.

The two parties reiterated the need for supporting dialogue and consensus track of the House of Representatives and High Council of State to reach a constitutional basis that leads to parliamentary and presidential elections as soon as possible.

British embassy reopened in Libya

The United Kingdom’s (UK) ambassador Caroline Hurndall has announced reopening its embassy in Libya on Sunday after an eight-year hiatus, saying this step is a demonstration of the UK’s commitment to the whole of Libya.

Hurndall said on Twitter that although the embassy is based in Tripoli, the reopening remains a demonstration of British commitment to the whole of Libya on its way to achieving a permanent political settlement.

Libya’s Fatwa House calls on Muslims to boycott India in support of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH)

The Libyan Fatwa House has called on all Muslims to boycott India after statements of defamation and mockery made by the spokesman for the Indian ruling party against the Prophet Muhammad – Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH) – in which he verbally attacked the Prophet’s wife Aisha.

The Libyan Fatwa House denounced those offensive remarks and described them as “an announced war on Islam and Muslims as well as a systematic policy for ending the presence of Islam in India.
