72 prisoners who escaped from prison on first day of Eid arrested

Security forces in west Libya arrested 72 out of 151 prisoners who escaped from Mellitah prison near Zuwara city, after an armed riot last Monday. The prison break led also t to the death of one prison guard.

Sabratha Security Directorate said in a statement on Wednesday that, following information about the presence of a fugitive from Mellitah prison on the outskirts of the city, the arrest team managed to detain the man and take him into custody.

The Times newspaper confirmed to Independent Arabia newspaper the authenticity of the article it had published as written by the Libyan Prime Minister-designate, Fathi Bashagha.

The Times said, through its spokesperson, that it remains adherent to what it has published regarding the article signed on behalf of Bashagha, indicating that Bashagha’s team confirmed to the paper the authenticity of the article.

The spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, reaffirmed Wednesday that finding a Special Representative of the Secretary-General) for the United Nations Support Mission In Libya (UNSMIL) is a "very" high priority for the UN.

During the UN's daily briefing, Dujarric was asked how much of a priority is it for the Secretary‑General to find a new UN Special Representative in Libya.
