Norland voices to Al-Kabir US concern about money transfers being used for political gains

The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, said Washington shares Libyan concerns that funds can be diverted to support partisan political purposes or undermine Libya’s peace and security.

This came in a discussion for the US ambassador and Treasury Deputy Assistant Secretary Eric Meyer with Central Bank of Libya’s (CBL) governor Al-Siddiq Al-Kabir.

European official: Libyan mercenaries are fighting alongside Russia in Ukraine

A European official said Tuesday that between 10.000 and 20.000 mercenaries from the Russian Wagner Group and fighters from Syria and Libya are currently fighting alongside the Russian forces in Ukraine.

According to the US-based Al-Hurra website, the official who asked not to be named, explained that those mercenaries do not have vehicles or heavy weapons, saying “they were brought in by Russia to support its forces in its invasion of its neighbor.”

Amnesty International blows whistle on human rights situation in Haftar-controlled areas

Amnesty International has expressed concern about the human rights situation in areas controlled by Khalifa Haftar's militias.

In a press release Tuesday, the organization said it had documented the arbitrary detention of dozens of residents in Sirte and else were including journalists and protesters, for participating in "peaceful demonstrations."

Dbeibah calls on Attorney General to investigate closure of oil fields

Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has called on the Attorney General to open an immediate investigation into the halting of oil operations in major fields and ports and hold those responsible for such acts accountable.

Dbeibah's call came during a regular meeting of the Council of Ministers, which was devoted to discussing the oil closures, in the presence of the head of the General Intelligence Service, the Chief of General Staff, and the Petroleum Facilities Guard.

Officer-in-Charge/Mission Coordinator of the UN Support Mission in Libya Raisedon Zenenga met in Tripoli on Tuesday with members of the Joint Military Committee (5+5) from the western region.

"The meeting came after Mr. Zenenga’s discussions with the eastern members of the JMC in Benghazi last week about the measures announced in their statement of 9 April, including a decision to suspend their work," the UNSMIL explained.
