Menfi urges EU to cooperate in immigration file

The Presidential Council Head Muhammad Menfi has called on the European Union (EU) to cooperate in the illegal immigration file, saying it is draining Libya's security and economic resources.

"Libya should not be made a guardian of Europe in light of its difficult circumstances," Menfi told the EU Council Head Charles Michel on the sidelines of the 6th African-European Summit in Brussels on Friday, according to a statement by the PC.

The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, has said that elections in Libya are not an end in themselves, but they are the key to restoring legitimacy for the sake of Libyans and their children, vowing that the US will stay with Libyans on this path.

Norland’s remarks came in a post congratulating Libyans on the 11th anniversary of the February 17 revolution that unleashed both promise and struggle over the past decade.

The spokesman for the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Hammouda, criticized Thursday the position of the Advisor of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Stephanie Williams, saying that her support for the stances of certain parties which are wishing to postpone elections and extend their mandates contradicted her statements in support of holding elections as soon as possible in Libya.

HCS members consider lodging complaint on statement supporting Parliament move

Members from the High Council of State are considering filing a complaint with the Attorney General after finding their names listed in a statement supporting the recent moves of Parliament to appoint a new prime minister and extend the mandate of the existing legislative bodies, HCS member Naima Al-Hami has said.
