Al-Ittihad beats Orlando Pirates 3-2 in CAF Confederation Cup

Libya’s Al-Ittihad football club won 3-2 against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the second round of group stage of CAF Confederation Cup at Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi.

Al-Ittihad’s match is the first at this competition this season after first round match against Royal Leopard club from Eswatini was moved to March.

HoR Speaker: Not holding Libya elections on December 24 last year was frustrating

The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh said he was frustrated that elections weren't held on December 24, 2021 because of the failure of the authorities entrusted with the process to pave the way and find a suitable environment for national reconciliation.

Two people die of food poisoning in social event in Tripoli

A woman and a teenager died of food poisoning and 44 other people were lodged in hospital after eating at the same social event in Souq Al-Jumua in Tripoli, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The spokeswoman for the ministry, Wedad Abu Al-Niran, confirmed that 44 people received medical care after the food poisoning, saying that the woman who didd was 44 years old and the teenager was a boy with a down syndrome.

Higher Education launches platform for medical colleges

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research launched Saturday the educational network platform for medical colleges (Video conference) at the level of Libyan universities.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Imran Al-Qib joined the ceremony organized in Tripoli, with directors of departments and supervisors of the project taking part, besides the head of the Main Committee of Medical Colleges.

Egyptian human trafficker responsible for trip that led to seven deaths under arrest

The Italian police on Saturday said they arrested an Egyptian human trafficker, wanted for organizing a dangerous migration journey that involved 287 migrants setting from Libya.

According to the Italian authorities, the migrants were suffering from brutal weather conditions when the Coast Guard rescued them on January 25, confirming that seven of them lost their lives to hypothermia..

MP Gunidi: Bashagha likely to present his government to Parliament next week

Member of the House of Representatives (HoR) Salem Gunidi said Sunday that the HoR is waiting for the Parliament-designated prime minister Fathi Bashagha to brief them on his proposed cabinet before the summoning of Parliament to give confidence to the new government.

In a statement to The Libya Observer, Gunidi seemed sure that the House would back a vote of confidence for the new government led by Bashagha.
