It is located in the District of Jabal Al-Akhdar in north-eastern Libya, about 30 km northeast of Bayda. It stands by the ruins of Apollonia, Cyrenaica and contains the Apollonia Museum.  
The city has a wonderful climate and charming nature. To the east of it, about 15 km there is a cave dating back to prehistoric times, where two Neanderthal skulls were found. 
There is an archaeological site that is still under research and excavation, containing Greek, Roman and Byzantine antiquities

France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and the United States have reiterated their position that the transfer of power in Libya takes place following the announcement of the results of early and prompt parliamentary and presidential elections.

In a joint statement Friday, the five western powers called on the Libyan authorities to respect the aspirations of the Libyan people for prompt elections by swiftly determining a final date for the polling and issuing the decided list of presidential candidates without delay.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has praised the high turnout by the Libyan people in voter registration, which was represented by the receipt of 2.8 million electoral cards.

“This necessitates holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya, under certain conditions, in order to reach a peaceful political transition and transfer power to an elected, democratic institution”, Guterres added.

Libya after postponement of elections: The way forward

The postponement of the elections that were to be held in Libya today should serve as a pause for reflection of what can be learned from the past 15 months to ensure that when elections are held, they will be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

The election process must form part of a broader process that helps bring about the acceptance of the result and the formation of a government accepted in all the territory of Libya.

The Presidential Council, as Chief Commander of the Libyan Army, met with the Chief of General Staff Mohammed Al-Haddad, Military Prosecutor, Masoud Erhouma, and Infantry Forces Chief of Staff, Faitouri Ghribel.

Spokeswoman, Najwa Wehebe, said the meeting discussed security and military developments in Libya.
