Libya records highest daily death toll from Coronavirus since outbreak of epidemic

The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) announced on Saturday the registration of 28 deaths and 4,061 new infections with the Coronavirus, in a highest daily toll since the outbreak of the epidemic.

NCDC indicated that the percentage of infections reached about 41%, as the number of samples that were analyzed amounted to 9,927 samples, 5,866 of which showed a negative result.

The center confirmed in its statement that the number of vaccinated people reached about 480,000 across the country.

The Libyan High National Elections Commission (HNEC) said it had been facing a smear campaign to get in the way of its efforts to pave the way for elections, which could bring dangers to the HNEC similar to the terrorist attacks on its headquarters in May 2018.

HNEC said it was committed to doing its job as per international criteria regarding holding elections with transparency and credibility, vowing to side with the people to achieve their desire to hold fair and transparent elections on December 24.

The Presidential Council urged Sunday for the passing of 2021 budget so the government can fulfill its commitment and provide services to people as per the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum's roadmap.

The Presidential Council added that it was following with concern the discussions between the Financial Committees of the House of Representatives and Government of National Unity on technical issues in the budget bill.

The Tarhuna Victims Association expressed its "surprise and shock" at the Supreme Judicial Council's request, in which it called on the Government of National Unity to inform the International Criminal Court (ICC) that the prosecution of criminal offenses in Libya is solely the responsibility of the Libyan judicial authorities.

"The Libyan judicial authority is incapable in every sense of the word to try the perpetrators of mass graves and the serious criminal offenses that occurred in Tarhuna," the association stated.

The Public Prosecution has initiated an investigation into claims concerning the lack of oxygen supply at Misrata isolation centre.

The Public Prosecution confirmed in a statement, it had interrogated those in charge of the center and assessed the oxygen system at the facility.

According to the statement, the preliminary investigations revealed a leak in the oxygen system, which was not dealt with properly, saying that the measures undertaken lacked the basic security and safety standards.
