UNSMIL commends municipal elections in Garabulli

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has congratulated the residents of Garabulli for their participation in the municipal council elections, praising the efforts of the Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections (CCMCE) to implement a "secure and professionally-conducted" electoral process.

In a statement Saturday, the UNSMIL also welcomed the re-run in 2 polling centres in Swani Bin Adam Municipality of the elections held on 7 January.

Al-Sarraj: Security, stability is a top priority for government

Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj has met with a delegation from the southern region to review the overall situation and needs of their areas.

The delegation included Member of Parliament Fatima Al-Suwai'i, Mayor of Ubari Ahmed Matko, Mayor of Wadi Utbah Abdul Rahman Al-Salheen, and President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in the South Mansour Al-Sreeti, besides several political and social activists in the region.

Siyala reiterates importance for foreign missions to work from Tripoli

Foreign Minister, Muhammad Siyala, emphasized it is most important for foreign missions to assume their work from Tripoli in light of the current stable security conditions.

Siyala's remarks came during his meeting with the newly appointed South Korean Ambassador to Libya Lee Sang-soo, after presenting his credentials to the Government of National accord, Saturday.

The Minister of Defence Salah El-Din Al-Namroush and Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Mohamed Al-Haddad, discussed with Chadian President  Idriss Déby mechanisms for protecting, securing and monitoring the Libyan-Chadian borders.

This came during the two top military commanders' visit to Chad Saturday, in which they met the Chadian President and his Defence Minister Mohamed Ibali Saleh.

Satellite images reveal enormous trench built by Russian Wagner in and around Sirte

The American network CNN published satellite images showing an enormous trench between the cities of Sirte and Al-Jufra dug by the Russian mercenary Wagner Group.

The photos show trenches extending from the city of Sirte as far as the Al-Jufra airbase, with a length of 70 kilometres, which are supported by a network of complex fortifications around the Al-Jufra base.

HoR, HCS agree in Bouznika on sovereign positions' sharing mechanism

The delegations of the House of Representatives (HoR) and High Council of State (HCS) agreed Saturday in Morocco's Bouznika to form a working team to implement the mechanism for sovereign positions' sharing among the three Libyan regions.

The sovereign positions that were discussed by the delegations were the Central Bank of Libya: Governor and deputy; Administrative Control Authority: Head and deputy; Audit Bureau: Head and deputy, and High National Elections Commission: Head and members.

Al-Sarraj receives credentials of four new ambassadors to Libya

The Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, received Saturday the credentials of four new ambassadors to Libya, in the presence of Foreign Minister, Mohammed Sayala.

‎The four ambassadors were from Bosnia and Herzegovina, South Korea, Rwanda, and Iran. The new ambassadors delivered speeches at the reception ceremony in Tripoli, thanking Libya for the warm welcome.

Women carry out hunger strike at Tripoli’s Mitiga prison over delayed trial

Human Rights Solidarity said a number of imprisoned women at Tripoli-based Mitiga prison carried out a hunger strike in protest of being held in custody for years without trial.

The human rights body called on the Attorney General's Office to immediately release the women, whom it said have not been found guilty of any charges.
