The Times: US flew Russian air defense system from Libya to Germany

The Times has reported that a truck-mounted Russian air defense missile system captured on a Libyan battlefield was flown intact to a US air base in Germany in a covert mission.

According to the report, the operation was ordered amid concerns that the Pantsir S-1 missile battery, which can easily bring down civilian aircraft, could fall into the hands of “militias or arms smugglers” in Libya.

Benghazi IDPs denounce UN mission approach in Libyan crisis

The Benghazi IDPs Association has reiterated its rejection of the UN mission’s approach to managing the ongoing crisis in the country.

This came in a statement issued on the block's Facebook page Wednesday, in which it warned that the regional quota system would be at the price of further division.

The statement rejected any future political or empowering role for those responsible for deepening the crisis in Libya, or who "waged war and caused bloodshed, and attacked the capital, Tripoli."

Malta seeks to open a consulate in Misrata "as soon as possible"

The Maltese Ambassador to Libya, Charles Saliba, affirmed that his country is seeking to open a consulate in Misrata "as soon as possible," stressing Malta's keenness to develop its cooperative relations with Libya in various fields.

The ambassador's remarks came during his visit to Misrata, accompanied by the Consul General of the Republic of Malta in Tripoli.

Libya's permanent representative to the UN Office and international organizations in Geneva, Tamim Ba'ayou, chaired the first meeting of the Arab Group, as head of the Council of Arab Ambassadors to the United Nations in Geneva for the first time in nearly ten years.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Libyan delegate conveyed Libya's welcoming remarks on the Gulf "Al-Ula" Agreement and the efforts of Kuwait and Oman to heal the rift and reunite the Arab countries.

Algeria to reopen its embassy in Libya

Algeria said it will reopen its embassy in Tripoli in the coming days after seven years of closure over security threats.

The announcement came Wednesday after a visit for the Algerian Foreign Minister, Sabri Boukadoum, to Tripoli, where he carried out a visit to check on the conditions of the embassy headquarters ahead of reopening in the few coming days.
