A family of nine people died of suffocation in Tripoli

A Libyan family consisting of seven children and their parents, the youngest is seven months old, suffocated to death inside their house in Al-Abyar Road in Ain Zara district, south Tripoli, the media advisor to the Ministry of Health, Amin Al-Hashemi, told The Libya Observer.

“Contact with the ‘Barion’ family has been cut off since last Tuesday”, Al-Hashemi said, adding that their decomposing bodies were found on Friday.

Williams: Libyans shouldn't allow any party to take away their chance for peace

The UN Acting Envoy to Libya Stephanie Williams has urged Libyans not to allow any party to "take away their opportunity for peace."

Williams outlined in an interview with the UN News website recent developments including a nationwide ceasefire agreed last month and the start of political dialogue last week in neighbouring Tunisia. 

Libya's HoR members to hold full-quorum deliberations session in Morocco

The members of the Libyan House of Representatives (from Tripoli and Tobruk) will hold a deliberations session in Rabat, Morocco Sunday upon an invitation from the Moroccan Parliament in an attempt to help unite the Libyan Parliament.

The Speaker of Moroccan Parliament Al-Habib Al-Malki invited the members of the Libyan HoR with the aim of gathering all of them from both the Tripoli and Tobruk seats, as part of the efforts of Morocco to build bridges among Libyans.

Libya to receive 10 Airbus helicopters soon, Interior Minister says

The Interior Minister of the Government of National Accord Fathi Bashagha said he would boost the capabilities of the Ministry after signing a partnership with France's Airbus Helicopters, adding that the Ministry would soon receive ten state-of-the-art helicopters.

Bashagha said on Twitter Saturday that the helicopters would be used in combating organized crime, terrorism, and in search and rescue operations as well as in monitoring the coast and borders and human trafficking routes.

Russia stops UN blacklisting of pro-Haftar militia

Russia has stopped the United Nations sanctions commission from blacklisting pro-Haftar Al-Kaniyat militia and its leader Mohammed Al-Kani, for human rights violations.

Reuters said Friday that the United States and Germany proposed that the Security Council’s Libya sanctions committee impose an asset freeze and travel ban on Al-Kaniyat militia and its leader Mohammed Al-Kani.

The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) organized on Thursday a workshop to discuss the epidemiological situation according to the new World Health Organization (WHO) criteria, which provides a picture of the levels and stages of the spread of Covid-19.

The attendees discussed means to perform work at the new standards and how to organize the flow of data and information between various relevant facilities and the teams concerned.

UNHCR resumes migrant evacuation flights from Libya to Rwanda

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) evacuated on Thursday a group of 79 asylum-seekers from Libya to Rwanda for the first time in nearly a year.

The evacuated group included men, women, and children from Eritrea, Sudan, and Somalia. Most were living in Tripoli, but others had previously been held in detention, some for several years, according to the UN organization.
