Education Ministry postpones classes after virus spike

The Education Ministry has postponed the reopening of schools, in response to the advice of the Medical Advisory Committee for confronting Covid-19 to cancel classes set to start next Saturday for several education levels, including the junior certificate stage.

"Classes will be delayed to reassess the epidemiological situation," said Minister of Education, Mohamed Ammari Zayed on Wednesday, noting that the National Examination Center will release the schedules of exam taking into consideration the physical and social distancing in classes.

The European Union is planning to remove the Speaker of House of Representatives in Tobruk Aqila Saleh from its sanctions blacklist to encourage peace efforts and ensure the EU plays a central role in any negotiated settlement, three diplomats said, according to Reuters.

The EU has blacklisted Saleh since 2016, as he was accused of obstructing peace efforts, but the diplomats said “he was now a key figure in a push to bring the two sides of the Libyan conflict together”.

Libyan "Al-Kani" militia senior leader has received medical treatment in Germany

German newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung, revealed Wednesday that Abdelrahim Al-Kani: a senior leader of Kani militias of Tarhouna who are accused of committing war crimes and mass graves, was receiving medical treatment in Bonn city.

The newspaper said Abdelrahim and five of his brothers formed a militia in Tarhouna city that fought for Haftar, adding that they are accused of kidnapping, murdering and torturing civilians.

Geneva-hosted Libyan talks end with road map for comprehensive solution

The consultations among key Libyan stakeholders that took place in Montreux in Switzerland under the auspices of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue and in the presence of UNSMIL between 7-9 September have ended in agreement on a road map for a comprehensive solution to the conflict.

The participants said the preliminary phase for a comprehensive solution to the Libyan crisis will be a deadline after which elections should be held in at least 18 months from now based on a constitutional foundation.
