The UN acting envoy to Libya Stephenie Williams has recommended sanctions for anyone trying to spoil next month’s crucial Libyan talks aimed at negotiating a unity government.
Williams told Bloomberg that the dysfunction has become so severe that there is an urgent need for change.
The Libyan Defense Ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA) said fighting rebels and aggressions doesn't grant any armed factions under the GNA impunity.
The Defense Ministry added in a statement that the clashes which broke out between Al-Daman and Osood Tajoura brigades - based in Tajoura eastern Tripoli - were violation of the security and stability of the state and a threat to the lives of civilians.
The Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) has completed the first phase of the transformation project, which is one of the main paths of the institution's approved strategies, a statement by the LIA said on Friday.
"The initial stage included the design and approval of an operating system that would ensure an effective operational process, while achieving transparency and internal control and governance, in compliance with the Generally Accepted Principles and Practices (the Santiago Principles)," the LIA explained.
The General Authority for Youth and Sports has signed a joint technical cooperation agreement with the German (GIZ) company for international cooperation to encourage youth to peaceful development in Libya.
The agreement came during a meeting between the authority's head, Bashir Al-Qantari, and representatives from the Giz company last week, in which they discussed aspects of cooperation in the field of development, according to the media office of the General Authority for Youth and Sports.
Russia and China blocked the official release of a report by UN experts on Libya that accused Libyan warring parties and their international backers - including Russia - of violating the UN arms embargo on Libya.
Germany’s deputy UN ambassador, Gunter Sautter, said he brought the issue to the Security Council after the two countries blocked the report’s release by the committee monitoring sanctions on Libya, which Germany heads.
Sources from Brak Shaati in southern Libya told Libya Al-Ahrar TV Channel Saturday that explosions had been heard at the military base.
The sources added that a group of Russian Wagner Group mercenaries came from Jufra and entered Brak Shaati base, saying they had been working on securing the base.
