The US AFRICOM Commander Stephen Townsend discussed Wednesday key security issues with Minister of Defense of Libya's Government of National Accord, including counterterrorism efforts and security sector reform.

The US embassy in Libya said in a statement that during his visit to Tunisia, US Africa Command Commander Stephen Townsend and the US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, discussed recent political and security developments in Libya.

Libya is reviewing striking a deal with the eastern European country of Belarus, to purchase heavy machinery, including tractors, said the national news agency of the Republic of Belarus "BelTA".

According to BeITA, The Libyan delegation asked the Belarus-based Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ trademark) to prepare commercial bidding containing the machines' characteristics, in preparation for concluding contracts in the short term.

The heads of municipal councils in Greater Tripoli have called on the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA) to declare a health emergency due to the terrible epidemiological situation in Tripoli, saying towns and cities should be isolated so the coronavirus cannot spread more.

Libya's NOC says warship docked at Ras Lanuf oil port

The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) has reported the presence of a warship in Ras Lanuf oil port, adding in a statement on Facebook that the warship entered the terminal on Saturday, 05 September 2020, and at present remains in port.

"In recent days, NOC has recorded several security breaches at Ras Lanuf, the most recent at the end of last week involving the discharge of live ammunition." The statement reads.

The Tripoli Teachers Union has expressed rejection and concern over the Education Ministry's decision to reopen schools as Covid-19 cases continue to rise in the country.

In a statement on Facebook, the union argued that the ministry's decision was either appropriate or practicable, as the move was taken in lack of resources on the part of the State, and the ministry's failure to abide by its pledges.

The Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) has welcomed the inter-Libyan talks, which kicked off in the coastal town of Bouznika, south of Rabat on Sunday, at the initiative of the Moroccan government.

In a statement on Monday, the CEN-SAD emphasized it is following with "particular attention and great satisfaction" the talks between members of the High Council of State and the Tobruk-based parliament considering it a continuation of the Skhirat process, which yielded the Political Agreement back in December 2015.
