75 million dinars allocated to Libyan municipalities to confront Coronavirus pandemic

The Libyan Presidential Council has allocated 75 million dinars to municipalities, local councils and steering committees in order to respond to the challenges facing communities amid the outbreak of Coronavirus in Libya.

The Presidential Council said Tuesday that the funds should be distributed to cover all aspects related to precautionary measures against Coronavirus outbreak in the country as well as the budget of medics and paramedics at the medical and quarantine centers.

Attacks on civilians in Tripoli continue as Haftar receives more support from UAE

One civilian has been killed and others injured as Khalifa Haftar's forces have fired a rocket on the densely populated area of Gergaresh in Tripoli, Health Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Haftar's rockets fell also on Abu Salim and Mazawgha areas in Tripoli, leaving two civilians injured - one child - according to the mayor of Abu Salim.

The attacks also targeted Awlad Dayab area near Mitiga Airport in Tripoli, causing material damage and panic among the residents.

EU launches naval "Operation IRINI" to monitor arms embargo on Libya

The European Union has launched a new naval mission off Libyan coast, Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) military operation in the Mediterranean, called IRINI (peace in Greek) in order to step up efforts to enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya.

Operation IRINI will have as its core task the implementation of the UN arms embargo through the use of aerial, satellite and maritime assets, according to the EU's announced on Tuesday.

Human Rights Watch warns of Coronavirus spread in Libya's detentions

Human Rights Watch said Monday that Libya needs to be prepared to limit the spread of the Coronavirus in overcrowded detention facilities and shelters for displaced people, adding that Libya’s healthcare system, along with other public services, has been battered by intermittent armed conflicts and political divisions since 2011.

Libya's NOC: Two employees, kidnapped 19 months ago, have been released

The board of National Oil Corporation (NOC) has welcomed the release of two employees - Ashraf Msallam and Valentin-Laurentiu Puscasu - who have been held captive for 1 year and 7 months.

NOC Chairman, Mustafa Sanallah, said in a statement on Monday that he was very glad to see these men safe and that their time in captivity had finally ended.
