Haftar's forces strike Murzuq in southern Libya

The member of Murzuq municipality Mohammed Omar said a warplane for Khalifa Haftar's forces struck Saturday afternoon Murzuq in southern Libya twice.

Omar told the German news agency that between six and eight people had been killed in airstrikes on eastern part of the town - Anti-Desertification Project - near the meteorology building where many houses are located.

Secretary General: Haftar hindered UN-led political process

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the attack on Tripoli by Khalifa Haftar's forces led to the halt of the UN-led political process in Libya.

Guterres added in a report on Thursday that Haftar had conditioned control of his forces on Tripoli before entering in any negotiations or formation of a national unity government.

Sayala: Calls for unconditional ceasefire make attackers and defenders equal

The Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala said Friday that calls for an unconditional ceasefire would make the attackers of Tripoli, who wish to return Libya to dictatorship, and its defenders, who wish to build a civilian state, equal.

Speaking at Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TIKAD), Sayala said the offensive against Tripoli was made possible through foreign support, yet it failed to seize power by force as Presidential Council's government had foiled it.

Turkey's envoy: Haftar started Libya's crisis in 2014

The Turkish envoy to Libya Emrullah Işler said Khalifa Haftar is responsible for dragging Libya into crisis since May 2014 and then for aborting political solutions in 2016.

In a forum in Ankara on Wednesday under the slogan "Tripoli Battle in the Domestic and Regional Levels", Işler said Haftar's forces allied with militias and that despite some countries knowledge of the fact that those militias are not legitimate, they tried to present Haftar as a partner in the war on terrorism.

Al-Sarraj hails defenders of Libya's Gharyan against Haftar's forces offensive

The Head of Libya's Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj has hailed in a statement the resistance of the forces who defended Gharyan against the attacks of Khalifa Haftar's forces early this week.

Al-Sarraj renewed his call on those who are "lured into the battle" on the side of Haftar's forces to surrender themselves and their weapons, saying they will be treated well.
