Libya's NOC mulls cooperation with China's oil firms

The Libyan National Oil Cooperation (NOC) said Thursday that a senior delegation arrived in China at the invitation of the country’s leading oil major China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to discuss investment and enhanced cooperation opportunities in the Libyan oil and gas sector.

The NOC delegation, headed by chairman Eng. Mustafa Sanalla, was welcomed by CNPC’s vice president and president of PetroChina, Hou Qijun, and the chairmen of CNPC's subsidiaries.

Libya's coastguards say 116 immigrants feared dead off Al-Khums shores

116 illegal immigrants have been reported missing and 132 others rescued by the Libyan coastguards and local fishermen as a wooden boat has capsized off Al-Khums shores - eastern Tripoli.

The Libyan Navy spokesman Ayoub Qassim confirmed Thursday that over 200 immigrants had been on the rickety boat.

UNHCR said earlier that up to 150 migrants were feared dead, saying 150 others could have been rescued.

Authorities in Lebanon, on Tuesday, issued arrest warrants in absentia for ten Libyan defendants in the case of the disappearance of Shia cleric Moussa Al-Sadr and his two companions Mohammed Yaacoub and Journalist Abbas Badr.

According to the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), Judicial Investigator Judge Zaher Hamadeh issued the arrest warrants for son of slain Gaddafi, Saif Islam Gaddafi and nine other Libyan nationals including former spy chief Abdullah Sanussi, for their role in the disappearance of Al-Sadr.

Victory in Tripoli soon, warlord Haftar claims again

Warlord Khalifa Haftar said on Wednesday that his army will announce victory in Tripoli over the terrorists and their backers very soon, after more than 100 days of deadly clashes.

In a speech to his armed groups, Haftar said they are facing “the most ferocious enemy on earth”, in reference to Libyan Army forces under UN-recognized government in Tripoli.

The joint operations room of Misrata has arrested three people linked to Al-Qaeda - including an Algerian national - and seized their weapons.

The joint operations room said the Algerian national has been under surveillance for a period of time in Tripoli as he is the main wanted terrorist, adding that the operation of storming his house was done after obtaining a permission for it from the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj met Wednesday with the Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed in Tunis and reviewed the latest developments in Libya.

The Head of the Libyan High Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri has confirmed that the HCS is working on facilitating the political initiatives as per the Libyan Political Agreement and will not negotiate with parties that are advocating "aggression" and imposing their vision by force.

Al-Mishri's remarks came in a meeting with the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame on Tuesday in Tripoli, where they discussed the latest developments of the military escalation in Tripoli.

Chairman of Presidential Council held separate meetings with German Ambassador to Libya Oliver Owcza and US Chargé d’Affaires Joshua Harris in Tunis on Tuesday.

The two meetings focused on the current situations in Libya, especially the ongoing war on Tripoli, in addition to Libya’s relations and cooperation ties with these two countries.

Sarraj reiterated his government’s intention to confront the attackers until they return to their pre-offensive bases.

Libyan Navy seizes Italian fishing boat with seven sailors on board

Libyan Coast Guard has seized an Italian fishing boat in the Libyan territorial waters, Chief of the Central Sector of the Volcano of Rage Operation, Colonel Rida Essa declared Tuesday.

In a statement, Essa said that five Italian sailors and two Tunisians were arrested on board the boat and are now under investigation at Misrata Port.

“The sailors don’t have any permission to fish in the Libyan waters,” he added.
