Chairman of Presidential Council Fayez Sarraj summoned French ambassador in Libya Béatrice du Hellen Saturday to officially protest France’s support to warlord Khalifa Haftar’s armed groups in their attack on Tripoli, a government source discloses.

The source, who preferred not to be named, said Sarraj delivered a strong-worded protest to ambassador Hellen for her country’s link to the current attack on the capital.

The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj has condemned the military operations and attacks on Tripoli by Khalifa Haftar's forces, saying it is a stab in the back amid the efforts to reach a political solution in Libya.

Al-Sarraj indicated Saturday in an address on the Libyan state TV Channel that he met with Haftar many times and was positive that the results of those meetings would facilitate a political settlement to the crisis.

Salame: UN won't accept a military solution in Libya

The UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, has reiterated the calls of the Secretary General on all sides of the fighting to deescalate and commit to the political process.

In a presser on Saturday in Tripoli, Salame said the aim of the UNSMIL is achieving peace and helping the Libyan people.

He also said that the UN is working on a political solution to the crisis and won't accept a military solution.

G7, European countries demand Haftar halt attack on Libya's Tripoli

The G7 countries and the European Union have rejected the military operation of the self-styled army of eastern Libya led by Khalifa Haftar and aimed to enter Tripoli, warning Haftar of the consequences of this operation.

Foreign Ministers of the UK, US, France, Canada, Germany, Italy and Japan as well as the EU diplomat Federica Mogherini issued a joint statement Friday expressing deep concern over military operations near Tripoli.
