Foreign Minister: Libya's southern borders are EU's borders

The Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala said the true borders of the European Union are not in the Mediterranean but in the vast Libyan desert, referring to the influx of migrants through Libya's southern borders.

Sayala told Kuwaiti News Agency Thursday that illegal immigration cannot be stopped along the Libyan coast as it needs more cooperation to build infrastructure and create work opportunities for the immigrants before crossing the borders.

Libyan authorities detain an ISIS senior leader in Sirte

Local officials and residents in Sirte said Thursday that Libyan authorities had arrested one of ISIS senior leaders in Sirte, Khalifa Al-Barg.

Reuters reported a Sirte official as saying that Al-Barg was detained, adding that no foreign forces took part in the operation as claimed by residents, adding that the ISIS militant was arrested from his house on Thursday.

Libyan media outlets reported that foreign forces may have helped in the arrest of Al-Barg who was the founder of Ansar Al-Sharia in Sirte.

Protest in Benghazi demanding UN envoy to Libya should leave

Tens of protesters took to the street in Benghazi, eastern Libya, calling on the UN envoy Ghassan Salame to leave for his "intentional negligence of the role of the Libyan army in fighting terrorism and for favoring Islamists over the army."

"Salame is always issuing statements to fool the public opinion." the protesters said in a televised statement.

Salame insists UN isn't part of Libya's crisis, says talking with Haftar for solutions

The UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, has stated that the UN Support Mission in Libya isn't part of the current conflict and is only a mediator to bring all parties together for a peaceful solution.

Salame added in an interview with a Libyan TV channel loyal to Khalifa Haftar on Wednesday that the UNSMIL is in communication with Haftar for the efforts of the political solution in the country.
