UN report: Libya's Derna is suffering as clashes hit an all-time violence records

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated that the escalation of fighting in Derna - eastern Libya - has reached unprecedented levels due to the use of airstrikes and artillery shelling.

"Some of the attacks have been targeting residential areas, besides heavy ground clashes." OHCA added in a report on Thursday.

Armed group attacks Tamanhint airbase, south Libya, and takes brief control

An armed group launched a surprise attack on Tamanhint airbase, northeast of the southern city of Sabha, on Thursday, and took over control before Dignity Operation armed groups, which control the airbase, managed to retake it again.

Sources said around 15 military vehicles attacked the main gate early in the day and took control after a brief exchange of fire with the fighters there. Later, the attackers were forced to retreat under heavy airstrikes by Dignity Operation and only then its ground fighters were able retake to the airbase.

German Ambassador Buck visits Zintan to discuss support to building town’s airport

The German ambassador to Libya, Christian Buck, visited the mountain town of Zintan on Tuesday, accompanied by a delegation from the embassy, to discuss ways of supporting construction of the town’s airport.

The German Embassy said in a brief statement that Ambassador Buck held a meeting with the mayor of the town, Mustafa Baruni, along with members of the Zintan Municipal Council as well as MPs in the House of Representatives who represent Zintan.

Head of Libya HCS urges for ceasefire in Derna, says he doesn’t recognize Haftar

The Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri, said a ceasefire must take effect in Derna, in eastern Libya, pointing out to the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) which says no to any military conflicts across Libya and advocates for reconciliation.
