House of Representatives fails to elect new governor for Central Bank of Libya, MPs suspend membership in protest

31 members from Tobruk-based House of Representatives suspended their membership on Tuesday in protest against the parliament’s failure to elect a new governor for the Central Bank of Libya.

The MPs attributed the failure to the second deputy president of the parliament; the presiding officer of today’s meeting, which was expected to name a new governor.

ICC issues arrest warrant for Gaddafi's interior security chief

The Pre-Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court (ICC) unsealed the warrant of arrest for Al-Tuhami Mohamned Khaled, the chief of Internal Security Department in the Gaddafi regime.

"The Gaddafi regime official is allegedly responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the context of the situation in Libya in 2011." The ICC explained on Monday.

The ICC also remarked that the unsealing of the warrant was requested by the ICC Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda.

UN-proposed government's PM to meet with Donald Trump in Washington

The Head of the UN-proposed government's Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj, has been invited to visit the White House to meet with the US President, Donald Trump, next June reported The New Arab news website, citing sources from Al-Sirraj's government.

According to the sources, Al-Sirraj will also meet with the commander of the self-styled army in eastern Libya, Khalifa Haftar, in Washington, in what seems to be a brokered meeting under the auspices of the US.

Libyan civil movement deems newly proposed constitution draft violation of citizenship principles

The newly blueprinted constitution draft, which was devised on April 16 by the accord committee of the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) has been rebuffed by the Libyan civil movement "Citizenship is my right and I won't relinquish it."

"The new draft has established more grounds for "shares" among certain Libyans and also for discrimination and thus has proved to be against the rights to citizenship, which we advocate for." The movement indicated.

HCS downplays HoR endeavors to elect new governor for Central Bank of Libya

The House of Representatives (HoR), which rules east Libya except Derna, is expected to elect a new governor for the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) on Tuesday, a controversial step that would cause rift within the sovereign body that manages the country’s multi-billion assets and add fuel to the existing political fire.

HoR Speaker says he met Al-Sweihli just as ordinary Libyan national, slams HCS as illegitimate

The meeting between the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aqilah Saleh with the Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Abdelrahman Al-Sweihli, was not meant to deal with Al-Sweihli as an official but rather as an ordinary Libyan national and a boycotting member of the HoR, Saleh said in a televised interview on Sunday evening.

"The HCS is not legitimate as it has not been included in the constitutional declaration as per the Libyan Political Agreement." Saleh indicated.
