Libyana Mobile deactivates foreigners’ SIM cards

Libyana Mobile Phone, one of Libya’s two mobile operators, has deactivated all foreign subscribers’ cell phones; a step intends to maintain national security according to sources.   

Libyana said all foreigners who wish to reactivate their SIM cards must bring a valid visa and a photocopy of their passports.

On Wednesday, hundreds of foreigners queued outside Libyana Business Centers in Tripoli in order to bring their mobiles into operation again.

NOC discovers new gas field 140 km away from Tripoli

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) has revealed on Tuesday that it had discovered a new offshore gas field that is about 140 km away from Tripoli and only 5 km to the north of Al-Buri oil field.

In a statement on its website, the NOC said that together with the Italian firm, Eni - Libyan branch - are glad to announce the discovery of the new gas and condensate field after they had done the needed digging in the area contacted by the NOC and Eni.

CBL kicks off anti-money laundering and terrorism sponsoring campaign

The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) announced Monday that the first meeting for the national committee for combating the phenomena of money laundering and terrorism sponsoring of 2017 was convened at the CBL headquarters.

"Several significant decisions were made at the meeting with the aim to get Libya back on the track of being committed to international standards related to money laundering and terrorism sponsoring crimes." The CBL said.

BDB rejects including Haftar in any Libyan political compromise

Benghazi Defense Brigades (BDB) denounced the stance of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) in which it conditioned its return to the dialogue table with including the leader of Dignity Operation Khalifa Haftar in the political process.

In a statement on Tuesday, the BDB said that for the HoR to be obstinately holding on to one name to be appointed as military chief in the country is a proof to all that there is a coup that is gradually trying to oppress the revolution and militarize the country.

71 people were killed in the southern Libyan city of Sabha over the past three months, the city’s Police Directorate revealed on Monday, adding that 32 others were abducted during the same period.

Releasing crime statistics for the months of January, February and March 2017, Sabha Police Directorate said 126 cars were also stolen. It clarified that the rising crime rates in the city are due to inaction of security institutions and their failure to perform their duties.
